Investor Rights Attorney Robert S. Banks, Jr.

Bob Banks has been practicing law for 28 years, and has dedicated his career to representing investors for the last 25 years – a cause he remains passionate about. He and his law firm represent investors in FINRA arbitrations and court to recover linvestment losses resulting from a misrepresentation of risks, negligent portfolio management, and fraud from broker-dealers, registered investment advisors, securities issuers, hedge funds, and lawyers and accountants who assist bad actors in perpetrating fraudulent investment scams.

Bob is a former President of the Public Investors Arbitration Bar Association (“PIABA”), www.piaba.org the premier bar assocation for investor rights attorneys, and served on the PIABA Board for 10 years, including terms on the Board’s Executive Committee. He has been involved in a number of PIABA committees over the years, and has chaired the PIABA committees on Membership and NASAA, www.nasaa.org.  He is a past president of the Federal Bar Association, Oregon Chapter. He also has chaired the Oregon State Bar’s Securities Regulation Section, and its Alternative Disputes Resolution Section. He is also a former chair of the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association Business Litigation Section. He has been appointed several times by the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services to serve on special committees studying proposed rules and regulations relating to securities law and investor protection.

Bob is currently serving his second three-year term as a public member of FINRA’s National Arbitration and Mediation Committee, and now chairs its Rules and Procedures Subcommittee. He chaired the NAMC’s task force to update FINRA arbitrator training materials in 2009, and received an award for the work done by that committee.

Bob was appointed in July ,2010, by the American Constitutuion Society, www.acslaw.org, to serve on its Judicial Nominations Task Force for the West/Mountain Region.  The Task Force reviews judicial candidates for federal judgeships, and reports its findings to The White House. 

Bob has been an invited speaker on securities related issues on numerous occasions, including appearances for the North American Securities Administrators Association, Northwest Securities Institute, New York City Bar Association, PIABA, Practicing Law Institute, Oregon Certified Financial Planners, and Oregon State Bar Securities Regulation Section.

Bob has been included in the list of Oregon Super Lawyers, which is given to 5% of the lawyers in the state, every year it has selected Oregon lawyers for inclusion.

Bob received his B.A. from Reed College  www.reed.edu  in 1977 and his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School http://www.law.wisc.edu/ in 1982 , where he was on the Dean’s Honor List and taught in the Legal Research and Writing Department for two years while still a student. He is a member of the bars of Oregon, Wisconsin and Massachusetts, and has represented clients from throughout the United States. His law firm, Banks Law Office, P.C., is based in Portland, Oregon, where he lives with his wife and two sons, and takes advantage of the great fly fishing and wilderness exploration opportunities not far from his home. He is a retired marathon runner and continuing recreational jogger and trail runner. He posted some respectable marathon times when he was a spry 40-something.
