Fighting Investment Fraud and Financial Abuse

Oregon

Oregon’s Investor Protection Laws.

Oregon has some of the strongest investment laws (called securities laws) in the nation to protect investors. Under Oregon law, a person who sells you investments by “misrepresentations or omissions of fact,” or through a “device, scheme or artifice to defraud” is required to return your investment money, plus interest at 9% per year. Oregon’s securities laws also give investors rights against people who worked behind the scenes in selling the investment, including lawyers, accountants, and others. ORS 59.115 and ORS 59.135. And, Oregon has special laws that protect seniors from investment fraud. ORS The Banks Law Office has successfully used those laws to recover millions of dollars in lost investment money for investors.

FINRA Arbitration.

The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) has an arbitration procedure for people who seek to recover their investment losses. The law requires that most investment recovery cases against stockbrokers and advisors be filed in a FINRA arbitration. There are Oregon hearing locations in Portland and Eugene. Usually, your hearing will be in the city closest to where you lived when the investment was made. We are experts in FINRA arbitration. Not only do we represent investors in FINRA arbitrations, but Mr. Banks has been a FINRA arbitrator himself since 1991.

State and Federal Courts:

Every Oregon county has a courthouse where investors can bring claims to recover their losses. In addition, there are federal courthouses in Portland, Eugene, Pendleton and Medford where investors can bring claims to recover their investment losses. Many of our investment recovery claims are brought in state and federal courthouses in Washington.
